Meteorologist Myles Henderson’s First Warning Forecast

***An Areal Flood Warning is in effect for Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and most of Northeastern North Carolina through this afternoon. Several inches of rain have fallen and high tide early this afternoon will make it difficult for standing water to recede. Additionally, some locations will experience an additional ½” to 1” of rain. Expect flooding to continue through this afternoon.***

***A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach through this evening.***

***A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for much of Hampton Roads from midday through the afternoon. Expect “minor” tidal flooding during the hours surrounding high tide this afternoon. Highs tide for Sewells Point is at 1:30 PM***

***A River Flood Warning is in effect for the Cashie River near Windsor in Bertie County. Minor flooding is expected with a crest near 8.3’ this evening.***

More rain and flooding… A stationary front and the remnants of Julia continue to linger along the Mid-Atlantic coast. Expect widespread clouds and rain again today. Our threat for severe storms is low but heavy downpours are expected again today. Watch out for areas of localized flooding, especially this morning. Rain chances will gradually become more scattered by this afternoon and evening. “Minor” tidal flooding is likely this afternoon surrounding times of high tide as a result of strong NE winds. Wind gusts to near 30 mph are possible. Highs today will return to the mid and upper 70s.

Rain and clouds continue for Thursday. Rain will continue to become more scattered but could still be very heavy at times. Highs will remain in the upper 70s. It will still be windy with NE winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Rain chances will drop and more sunshine will mix in for Friday and weekend. We will also warm into the mid 80s by Saturday before another cool down for Sunday and early next week.

Today: Cloudy, Rain (80%), Windy. Highs in the upper 70s. Winds: NE 10-20G30
