Club Embassy homicide suspect caught in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 37-year-old man wanted in connection to a homicide that occurred in August at Club Embassy in Virginia Beach was arrested Tuesday morning by U.S. Marshals in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tobias Loftin, charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The homicide occurred in the early morning hours of August 27. When police arrived, they found 34-year-old Demetrius Darnell McCloud of Norfolk dead inside the club from an apparent gunshot wound.

On August 31, warrants were issued for 37-year-old Tobias Loftin, charging him with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Virginia Beach Police asked the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for help locating Loftin and the investigation quickly moved to Charlotte after investigators received tips he may be in the area.

Loftin was arrested in a Charlotte apartment on Tuesday after a 30 minute standoff with authorities. The Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Department assisted with the arrest.

Loftin is now being held in the Mecklenberg County Jail awaiting extradition to Virginia.
