NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police are asking for help solving a fatal hit-and-run crash from June.

Officers responded to Jefferson Avenue near Shields Road around 9:25 p.m. on June 17. Tyrone Patrick, 54, was struck by four separate vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Jeff Imgrund was the investigating officer that night. He tells News 3's Todd Corillo that the first car, as well as the third and fourth cars to hit Patrick, all stayed on scene and cooperated with police. The second car sped away.

"You have the one vehicle that fled the scene after basically running over and dragging a body in the roadway and failing to stop and three months later the family still does not have the closure that they deserve. That’s probably the hardest thing is not giving the family the closure they deserve," he shared.

Witnesses describe the car that left the scene as a dark blue or black 4-door sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima. Police believe it's likely the car had front-end damage immediately following the crash. The car had been driving south on Jefferson Avenue when it struck Patrick.

Three months after the crash, police are hoping someone has information that can help them solve this case.

"They are going to say things to family members, their friends, social media. Someone is going to slip up," Imgrund stated.
