Man arrested for entering two Norfolk schools, claiming to be a police officer

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Police have arrested the man who entered two Norfolk schools in the past several days and claimed to be a police officer.

Police say they were first called to Mary Calcott Elementary School on Friday, September 9 after the man came into the school around 8:30 a.m., claiming to be an undercover police officer that needed to inspect the school.

The school was placed on a lockdown but before officers arrived, the man ran from the school.

On Tuesday, September 13, the man entered St. Pius X Elementary School around 7:25 a.m. An office employee recognized the man from surveillance pictures taken at Mary Calcott and called police while another school employee continued talking to the man.

When police arrived, the man was detained and taken to the Police Operations Center for questioning.

He has been identified as 46-year-old Clevon Overton.

Overton was ultimately charged with one count of impersonating a police officer and two counts of trespassing on school property.

Police are still actively investigating the two incidents and have not commented on a possible motive at this time.

Overton has previous criminal charges related to larceny, burglary and breaking and entering.

He is being held in the Norfolk City Jail on no bond.
