Julia strengthens to tropical storm

Tropical Storm Julia formed Tuesday night along the coast of northeastern Florida and is expected to produce heavy rainfall for portions of the southeast U.S.

At 5 PM Thursday,  after the Hurricane Hunters surveyed Tropical Depression Julia, they determined the system had strengthened to a Tropical Storm once again. Julia is expected to meander off the coast of South Carolina and North Carolina for the next couple of days. The system was located 150 miles SSE of Charleston, South Carolina. Julia is moving E at 8 mph, and a slow erratic motion is expected over the next couple of days. On the current forecast track, Julia will meander off the northern Georgia and southern South Carolina coastlines through Friday. Sustained winds at 40 mph with higher gusts. Weakening is expected on Friday.
