VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Former NBA and Duke basketball star Christian Laettner is coming to town to play in the 8th annual Ping-Pong for Charity event Friday in Virginia Beach.

Laettner has been considered by many to be one of the best players to come out of the college basketball scene. He has been the topic of documentaries, news stories and water cooler chat for years.

He will be playing in the 8th annual Ping Pong for Charity Celebrity Slamfest kicking off Friday at 7 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, located on 2020 Landstown Centre Way.  The event raises money for brain diseases like Alzheimers and Parkinsons.

Laettner will join other celebs like former Greek National Champ and super model Ioanna Papadimitriou and Kim Gilbert, a former U.S. Olympic Festival Gold medalist. Gilbert is touted as one of the most entertaining table tennis players in the world.

Organizers of the charity event say there will be food, drinks, dancing, a DJ, roller derby girls, and of course some wild Ping-Pong action.

News 3's Beverly Kidd will be one of the Ping-Pong players in the Celebrity Slamfest event.

The event is open to the public and tickets are $45 at the door.
