Thursday was just a regular day on patrol for Deputy Clayton Doss and Trooper T.T. Tucker, until they received a call at 10:20 a.m. about an infant who was choking and not breathing.

Deputy Doss arrived at the home shortly after Trooper Tucker and found the infant unresponsive, both of the men began to administer CPR to the baby.

Deputy Doss began to suction the infant’s mouth and nasal passages using a suction device, while Trooper Tucker administered chest compression to the baby.

The two continued to perform CPR on the child until medics arrived to take over the CPR efforts.

The baby was revived and began to breathe again. The baby was taken to a local hospital for a follow-up examination.

“Situations like this one […] are the reason why I have all of my personnel trained and certified in CPR by the American Red Cross,” said Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page. “In both of these instances, they have saved a life. Families still have their loved ones today as a result of the quick actions of these officers. I could not be prouder of my Deputies […] and Trooper Tucker for their recent lifesaving efforts.”
