VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Nearly a dozen students spent two weeks in Panama donating their time and supplies to schools and students in need.

During the two-week peace mission, from July 31 – August 13 U.S. students met with more than 700 Panamanian students at three different schools.

The group also spent time at two hospitals.

The Panama Peace Mission is one of Operation Smile’s newest efforts to educate and inspire teens so they can be civically minded and compassionate.

Students raised nearly a $1,000 to purchase supplies for the Panamanian students.

Manon Scholl is a rising 9th grader at Green Run Collegiate and had the opportunity to participate in the effort.

“This trip has made me more appreciative of what I have. I think twice when buying stuff that I really don’t need. When I returned home from the mission, I went through my closet and put together several bags of clothing and donated the items to Goodwill. This trip has inspired me and I want to help others,” said Scholl.
