SUFFOLK, Va. – A tractor-trailer hit and downed a power pole in the 700 block of Main Street in Suffolk on Friday morning.

Calls reporting the accident came in just before 11 a.m., according to Suffolk Police.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was attempting to make a U-turn after realizing he couldn’t drive south on Main Street. That’s when he hit the pole.

No one was injured.

The driver, Sam Diphibane, of Kearns, Utah, was charged with Reckless Driving and Failure to Obey Traffic Sign – No Trucks.

The roadway was closed in both directions immediately following the accident due to the pole and electrical lines across the roadway, and Officers were then able to direct southbound traffic through a parking lot around the area.  Crews from Dominion Virginia Power responded to the scene, and Suffolk Public Works crews assisted in placing detour signs.

The roadway reopened in both directions at 12:03 p.m.
