NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Newport News Police are investigating the homicide of a 24-year-old man that occurred late Thursday night.

Police and medics responded to reports of a shooting at the Motel 6 at 797 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard around 10:40 p.m.

When they arrived, they found the 24-year-old victim, identified as Aaron Gerard Bowman Jr., lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Bowman was transported to a local hospital for treatment but later died as a result of his injuries.

The investigation revealed Bowman was sitting in a car when a SUV pulled into the motel parking lot and parked next to the victim’s car.

Detectives say they’re unsure exactly what occurred but they know several black males were outside the SUV and at some point got into the SUV and drove off at a high rate of speed.

The investigation is ongoing.
