Painter, Va. - There's nothing quite like riding the wind from thousands of feet in the air with only a synthetic cloth and a professional hang glider keeping you up.

"It's like no other," says Don Guyunn. "You know there's skydiving, there's white water rafting, but there's very few places in the United States or even the world that you can actually go hang gliding and fly like a bird."

Virginia Hang Gliding on the Eastern Shore is one of those few places. They say because of their location, it's one of the best.

"We've got probably the best tandem park in the United States, just because we have beautiful scenery with the Atlantic Ocean the Chesapeake Bay and the beautiful peninsula," says Guyunn.

The views are spectacular. On clear days you can see the barrier islands, the inlets, the mainland of Virginia and even the Wallops Island space facility.

If this extreme sport is on your bucket list, this may be the best time to do it.

There's no other time but now," says Guyunn . "The past is gone, the future doesn’t exist, so when else would you do something?"

And for those people who may be too afraid to try it out?

"Push your boundaries a little bit."

They fly passengers from 4 years old to 104 years old up to 250 pounds.

Flights start at $179 and run every day from April through October.
