Two people injured in Norfolk late night shooting, suspect arrested

NORFOLK, Va. – Police have arrested a man in connection to a shooting that took place Saturday night.

Officers were called to investigate in the 1500 block of McNeal Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.

When police arrived, they found two people suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds inside a car. Medics took the 49-year-old man and 47-year-old woman to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.

Police arrested John Ireland, 54, near Campostella Road and Fillmore Avenue shortly after the shooting.

Ireland has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
