NEWPORT NEWS – The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport will receive $1,100,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration.
The funds will be used to improve the efficiency of passenger screening and to build a walkway between terminal concourses on the secure side of the checkpoint.
Another grant was awarded to Louisa County’s Freeman Field for an $80,000 project to build a 19,500 foot perimeter fence.
“These funds come at a time when the need for increased protection at our nation’s airports continues to be a top priority,” said U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA). “I am pleased that these two Virginia airports will receive this investment to protect the thousands of Virginia travelers who use these airports, while also improving the existing airport infrastructure for years to come.”
