VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Tidewater Hokie Club's ninth annual kickoff dinner was its biggest yet.

A sold out and standing-room-only crowd of 340 Hokies were on hand at the Virginia Beach Convention Center to hear from first-year Virginia Tech head football coach Justin Fuente.

"It's fantastic to get out and see the Hokie nation," Fuente told News 3 sports. "We've been doing this the last couple nights across the state, and it's always fun to interact with people who genuinely love and care about Virginia Tech football."

Fuente was hired in November to replace legendary, longtime head coach Frank Beamer. Wednesday was Fuente's first appearance at the Tidewater Hokie Club's annual kickoff dinner.

Virginia Tech opens the Justin Fuente era September 3 when the Hokies host Liberty at Lane Stadium.
