Chesapeake - Police are investigating after a man was shot inside an apartment complex for disabled adults and seniors Wednesday night.

According to police, the shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. at Sanderling Apartments. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Those who live in the building say they are relieved to know the man will be okay, but they are disturbed by what happened doors down from them. Especially since the person who shot the man is on the lose, according to police, the victim was unable to provide officers with a suspect description.

Those who live at Sanderling Apartments say they are terrified about what happened.

"This is a disabled building so a lot of us are disabled or elderly the main thing about my concern was safety," said Portia Arrington.

Some neighbors, like Darryal Sutton,  even saw the aftermath.

"I mean blood was just shooting everywhere," said Sutton.

Now residents say they are asking for more security, so that this doesn't happen again.

"I'm in a wheel chair, so my safety and the safety of my neighbors is very important to me," said Arrington. "We have requested more safety over here but we haven't gotten it yet."

If you have any information that can help police with the shooting, take action and call the crimeline.
