SUGAR MAPLE DRIVE TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE ON HOLLAND ROAD CONNECTION PROJECT Road to close Wednesday, July 6

VIRGINIA BEACH— The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will temporarily close Sugar Maple Drive beginning Wednesday, July 6 at 9:00 a.m. The closure will last four weeks as crews work to install storm drains and utilities in preparation for the new roadway on Holland Road.

Local traffic can use Chestwood Drive to access the Sugar Maple Drive neighborhoods and Holland Road. Motorists traveling on Holland Road will not be affected.

As construction moves along the corridor from Dam Neck Road to Nimmo Parkway, traffic shifts will occur as sections of temporary and new pavement are completed. Lane closures, when necessary, will only occur during off-peak hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., weather conditions permitting.

Motorists are advised that the reduced 35 mph speed limit remains in effect throughout the work zone, and to drive with caution when traveling in the construction area.

The Holland Road Connection Project has been underway since the spring of 2015 and is scheduled for completion in October 2017. The project spans 2.5 miles and will increase road capacity from the existing two-lane road to a new four-lane divided roadway connecting Dam Neck Road to Nimmo Parkway.

Access to adjacent neighborhoods and businesses will remain throughout the life of the project. To learn more, please visit http://www.virginiadot.org/hollandroad.
