All- America City Award, presented by the National Civic League
NORFOLK, Va. – Every year the National Civic League presents an All-America City Award, and Norfolk has won it for 2016.
Norfolk also won the award in 1959, and in 2002.
This year the city won for its efforts to “ensure that all our children are healthy and successful in school and life” the National Civic League stated.
The award is given for different reasons from year to year based on pressures of local issues. Annually, 10 cities are recognized nationwide for trail-blazing efforts to combat these issues.
The other nine winners this year were in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Hampton and Portsmouth have also won this award in the past.
