NORFOLK, Va. – University enrollment projections are trending upward, according to Norfolk State University.

In December, 2015, NSU’s probation status was lifted after the university met all accreditation concerns from the  Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The university’s Office of Enrollment Management shows that NSU has received more than 6,200 applications from first-time freshman and nearly 1,000 applications from transfer students for the 2016-17 academic year.

According to NSU, preliminary data shows the university has admitted 3,253 freshman, more than twice the number of freshman during the same time period last year.

The campus is also going through some positive changes as construction is underway on a replacement building for Brown Hall.  The building will house NSU’s College of Liberal Arts programs.

The $47 million, 154,000 square-foot building is expected to be completed in 2017.
