NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk Fire- Rescue responded to a residential structure fire Tuesday morning in the 1300 block of Bolton Street.

Crews reported heavy smoke showing from the second floor of a two story home.

They entered the home and located the fire in a second floor bedroom.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue initiated a fire attack, conducted a primary search of the home, and checked for further fire extension. The fire had extended above the ceiling into the attic space.

Firefighters made a quick knock down on the fire and the fire was brought under control.

A mother and son self-evacuated the structure unharmed.

The two story home sustained fire and smoke damage mainly on the second floor, but smoke damage was throughout the home.

The home did have a smoke alarm, but it’s unclear if the smoke alarm alerted the occupants.

Red Cross was requested to support the displaced family. The fire is currently being investigated by the Norfolk Fire Marshal Office.
