SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. – Reginald Eley of Ivor bought a winning Powerball ticket from the Woco Express on 35228 General Mahone Boulevard.

Eley regularly plays Virginia Lottery Games and is well known to the clerks at Woco Express, including a woman named April.

“She checked the ticket and said, ‘You’re the one we’ve been waiting for!’” he recalled. “I told her, ‘Stop playing, April,’ and she said, ‘I’m not playing!’”

He matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number, which would usually win $50,000. He spent an extra dollar on the Power Play when he bought the ticket, winning him an additional $150,000.

Eley plans on buying a house with his winnings and intends to give some of the money to April.

“She wants a tattoo,” he said. “I’m going to get it for her.”

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
