NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals announced Monday today that the team has named Rod Aldoff head coach for the upcoming season.

Aldoff will replace Eric Veilleux who left to become the coach and general manager of the Canadian team Victoriaville Tigres.

The 45-year-old has spent the past three season as coach of the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

While there, the team won two SPHL Championships and Aldoff was named the 2013-14 Coach of the Year.

Aldoff is also the Pensacola Ice Flyers' winningest coach.

Aldoff previously coached in the Superior International Junior Hockey League with a 145-15-8 overall record in three seasons while twice being named the league's coach of the year.

A native Canadian, Aldoff also guided Team Canada West to a win at the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospects Events in Nova Scotia in November of 2012.

Aldoff had a 15-year professional playing career as a defenseman in both North America and Europe, including parts of five seasons in the ECHL.

“We are very excited to announce that Rod Aldoff will be leading our players and prospects in Norfolk,” said Edmonton Oilers Assistant General Manager Bill Scott. “Rod comes to us highly regarded in the industry with a reputation for hard work and getting the most out of his players. He has been a consistent winner including two SPHL championships in the last three seasons. Rod is going to bring a winning tradition to the Admirals which will be very exciting for our players and fans.”

The Norfolk Admirals open the 2016-2017 regular season at home versus the Kalamazoo Wings on October 14 at 7:30 p.m.
