WILMINGTON, N.C. – A woman was medevaced from a sailboat moored at Sugarloaf Island near Morehead City Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington were notified at approximately 8 p.m. from the 28-foot sailboat that a woman experiencing respiratory complications needed help.

Sector North Carolina diverted a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon to assist. The crew arrived on scene at 8:20 p.m.

The Coast Guard transported the woman and her husband to Big Rock Landing at the Morehead City waterfront and placed her in the care of awaiting Morehead City EMS personnel at 8:23 p.m.

“We were already underway, which allowed us to respond quickly,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Lesandro Guzman, the Motor Lifeboat operator on the case. “We were glad to transport someone in need of care to local EMS.”

The woman was stable when she was transported. There have been no updates on her condition.
