ELMONT, N.Y. – Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist has been pulled from the Belmont Stakes race.

Nyquist had a 103 degree temperature as early as Monday morning and has an elevated white blood cell count. The three-year old horse remained stabled at Pimlico on Monday instead of traveling to New York for the Belmont Stakes after racing in the Preakness on Saturday.

The plan was to run the race if test results came back positive, but his trainer Doug O’Neill wants to be cautious and save him for other summer races.

The Belmont Stakes takes place on June 11.
