NORFOLK, Va. - A Norfolk church is working to recover after $2,500 dollars worth of copper piping, metal materials and lumber were stolen from a house at 1044 Lindenwood Avenue.

The house was donated to First Baptist Church on Bute Street after the owner passed away. She wanted it to be used to better the community and soon it will be made into a shelter for female veterans.

Volunteers say they got a grant through Home Depot, which supplied them with the materials needed to complete a renovation. Thanks to the tireless work of volunteers, the goal was to open the house by the end of the year, but the theft could set them back.

Organizer Renee Foster told News 3 she hopes the supplies will reappear once word spreads that the house is step in the right direction for our community.

The project, however, is still in need of volunteers. Particularly skilled laborers.

Anyone interested can contact Renee Foster at 757-615-3506 or First Baptist Church on Bute Street in Norfolk.
