VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Interstate 264 westbound near Rosemont Road has reopened following a three vehicle crash on Monday afternoon.

Police say a 2002 Nissan Sentra was traveling on I-264 westbound when the car broke down in the travel lane.

The Nissan was hit by a 2008 Chevy Silverado, causing it to spin around and hit an HRT bus. The impact of the crash caused the Nissan to catch on fire.

The 31-year-old driver of the car, a 28-year-old man and a 2-year-old girl were rescued from the burning car. They were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

A 5-month-old girl died in the fire. Her name was Alegacee Pearl Bell, according to family attorney Jon Babineau.

The bus was not carrying any passengers at the time.

"It was pretty crazy," said Eric Taylor who works nearby. "It's heartbreaking to see something like that."

A detour was in place for drivers, which created backups on other roads, like Virginia Beach Boulevard.
