NORFOLK, Va. - Sunday was the first day of Hurricane Season Preparedness Week.

June 1 is the first day of the hurricane season for the Atlantic Coast and you need to be prepared.

Get your checklist out and ready so that your Hurricane Preparedness Kit is complete and full.

Here are a few items that you will need:

  • Canned goods
  • Rain gear
  • Manual can opener
  • First Aid kit
  • A three day supply of water,  one gallon per person per day
  • Batteries
  • Flashlights
  • Medication(s)
  • Extra clothes already packed

These items may already be in your home. You can also find them at your local grocery store, hardware store, Target and Walmart.

Keep your items together or purchase a separate set to keep in your kit. Also, place it somewhere that is accessible to you when needed.

Being one step ahead is a step in the right direction when it comes to safety.
