VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A Maryland man has been issued a summons for reckless driving after a deadly crash at the intersection of Pleasure House Road and Northampton Boulevard, according to police.

John A. Pignataro, 27, was issued the summons on Tuesday.

The call came in at 6:55 p.m. on Monday.

The crash involved a white Lexus sedan and a maroon pick-up truck that was towing a vehicle on a trailer.

The Lexus was driven by one man with a woman passenger. The driver was on Northampton Boulevard coming to a stop at red light at the Pleasure House Road intersection.

The  maroon truck crashed into the Lexus from behind.

The driver of the Lexus, identified as 27-year-old Erik Raimud Schmeiser of Norfolk, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger was taken to the hospital.

Pignataro received no injuries.

All people involved were wearing seat belts.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
