Vehicle accident causes power outage in Suffolk

Suffolk, Va. – An accident in the 4600 block of Whaleyville Boulevard caused a power outage to over 200 customers in that area.

The accident happened around 3:30am Thursday when a woman driving a Honda minivan crashed into an electrical pole causing it to snap in half with downed power lines near the vehicle.

The vehicle overturned during the crash, trapping the woman inside. She was subsequently extricated by rescue personnel and treated at the scene.

Whaleyville Boulevard was completely shut down from Liberty Spring Road to Freeman Mill Road for several hours. It has since reopened.

About half  of the customers affected by the outage have been restored and the remaining is expected to be restored by 8:00am.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
