One shot, killed at Texas transportation company by terminated employee

KATY, Tex. – One person was killed at a Texas transportation company Wednesday after an employee who had been terminated earlier walked into the building and opened fire.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Knight Transportation in Katy, Texas, west of Houston.

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said in a press conference that the call reporting an active shooter was received at 8:43 a.m. and deputies were on the scene two minutes later.

The suspect had been terminated from the company earlier Wednesday morning, according to Sheriff Hickman.

The suspect shot and killed another employee before turning the gun on himself.

A second employee sustained a minor injury to the face, but did not require transportation to the hospital.

One deputy was injured during the response when he fell on his knee.
