USNS Spearhead to return home from mission in Africa on Thursday

Norfolk, Va. – More than 100 U.S. military and civilian personnel who served aboard the Navy’s USNS Spearhead will return to their families at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story on Thursday, May, 5th at 9 a.m.

The Africa Partnership Station (APS) is designed to achieve common maritime security goals through partnerships and collaborations.

APS specifically aims to increase the regional maritime safety and security throughout Africa’s maritime environment.

This is the third deployment of the Spearhead in the U.S.  Sixth Fleet Area of Operations

This ship was an essential part in counter piracy operations off the West African Coast.

The USNS also participated in several training exercises, conducted maritime operations in the gulf of Guinea and made calls to visit Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Senegal and Spain.
