Hampton school bus driver charged in fatal collision

HAMPTON, Va. – A Hampton City School bus driver has been charged following a fatal collision at the intersection of Settlers Landing and Pembroke Avenue.

Hampton Police received a call around 4:30 p.m. on March 30 about a two-vehicle crash involving a Hampton City School bus and a Chevrolet Malibu.

When Fire and Rescue teams arrived, they realized the driver of the Chevy Malibu was suffering from critical injuries.

The driver of the Malibu, identified as 60-year-old Gloria Ford, was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the bus, identified as 61-year-old Terry Hudson, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Hudson has been charged with reckless driving.

No students were on the bus at the time.

Police say the school bus was traveling northbound on Settlers Landing Road and was making a left turn onto Pembroke Avenue. The Chevy Malibu was traveling southbound on Queen Street towards Settlers Landing Road when both vehicles collided in the intersection.
