VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Take Your Daughters And Sons To Work Day began in 1992. A study had shown that young women were losing self-esteem and making poor life choices as a result. Ms. Magazine president, Marie C. Wilson, and its founder, Gloria Steinem, discussed ways to combat this problem.

In 1993, the first event was held where children went to work with their adult role models to shadow them and learn about their careers.
Since that time Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day has taken place on the last Thursday in April. So on Friday the students will have a chance to share with their peers what they did during the previous day.
Each year is themed and 2016's theme is "Sparking Aha Moments". Aha Moments represent innovation and new ideas.
