VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The citizens of Houston devastated by flooding will now have a few extra hands to help.

Operation Blessing deployed its U.S. Disaster Relief Team to the area to help residents in their clean-up efforts.

The flooding was caused after 17 inches of rain poured into the area.

Seven people have died and more than 1,000 homes have flooded.

An advance team left on April 21.  Operation Blessing sent disaster relief equipment from their warehouse in Florida which included a construction trailer loaded with tools, a box truck full of volunteer equipment, and a mobile kitchen.

The organization's mobile command center left their warehouse in Chesapeake early Saturday.

While in Houston, the team will meet with local emergency management officials and set up a base of operations to coordinate volunteer clean-up.
