Virginia Beach – One of the busiest weekends of the year is officially here in Virginia Beach.

College students from across Virginia and all over the East Coast have made their way to the Oceanfront for College Beach Weekend 2016.

“All of our friends told us this is the place to be for beach week so we decided to join the party,” said Dawn Gonzales, of New Jersey.

According to Virginia Beach Police, between 30,000 and 40,000 people are expected to be at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront between April 22 to April 24. To prepare, police say they have increased patrols on bike, foot and even motorcycle. Many Beach Weekend-goers say they aren’t concerned for their safety.

“You don’t look for trouble, trouble isn’t going to find you,” said on Beach Weekend attendee. “As long as you stay to yourself and have fun you’ll be fine.”

The rain on Friday caused many to stay inside, but that won’t be the case for long.

“It’s not going to ruin the weekend we are still going to have fun,” said Gonzales. “Rain or shine we are still going to have fun.”
