DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR fined Tony Stewart $35,000 Thursday for violations of member conduct guidelines.

NASCAR did not say what specifically led to the fine but actions that could result in this type of fine include disparaging the sport and/or NASCAR’s leadership, or verbal abuse of a NASCAR Official, media members or fans.

Stewart announced earlier Thursday that he would return to the racetrack this weekend at Richmond after missing the last eight races due to injury.
