dNORFOLK, Va. – A Lakewood Dance and Music student’s life was saved during a class in early March.

It all started when Frank Pucci  passed out while attending a dance class. The staff quickly responded by reviving him while emergency help was on the way.

Dance Specialist Bonita  Herron used the facility’s Automated External Defibrillator on Pucci. Staff members Nancy Smith, Eureka Belcher, Betty Turner, Gloria Caddell, and Audrey Webster also helped in the emergency.

The AED machines were purchased eight years ago for Recreation, Parks and Open Space pools, beaches and recreation facilities. All staff members are required to have certification in American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED.

At Lakewood Dance and Music, staff members are trained by another dedicated dancer, Chris Abelein, a retired member of the military and a professional First Aid/CPR/AED trainer.

Pucci returned to class following a successful heart valve replacement. Thanks to the Lakewood Dance and Music team Pucci has lived to dance another day.
