VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – An employee  was assaulted at the Virginia Beach Human Services building Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. around 11:15 a.m. on a report of an assault.

Officers determined that a man had signed in and then followed a female employee through a stairwell door.

Police said the suspect squeezed through the closing door, ran up to the woman and assaulted her.

In a call to First Responders, dispatch says the woman was thrown down the stairs, had difficulty breathing and back pain. She was taken to the hospital, according to police, she has minor injuries.

Police believe it is a random attack and the suspect and victim do not know one another.

Corey Deshawn Taylor, 26, of Virginia Beach was arrested and charged with Simple Assault.

He is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
