Norfolk, Va. – A 5-year-old was taken to a hospital Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle.

Emergency personnel were called to the 6200 block of Alexander Street around 4:45 p.m.

According to police, the child was playing football in his yard when the ball went into the street. The child ran into the street after the ball and was hit by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old woman, did not see the child run into the street because there was an ice cream truck blocking her view.

The child was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene.
