Newport News, Va. – A 60-year-old motorcyclist died after a crash that occurred March 16 on northbound I-664 near Terminal Avenue in Newport News.

According to Virginia State Police, a trooper came upon the accident at approximately 5:05 p.m. but was unable to locate the driver of the motorcycle.

With the help of witnesses and Newport News Fire & EMS, the driver, 60-year-old Judge Martin Haugen, was found  a short time later laying in a private parking lot on Terminal Avenue.

The investigation revealed Haugen was traveling northbound on I-664 on a 2013 Honda motorcycle when he lost control, ran off the road and hit a jersey wall.

When he hit the wall, he was ejected from the motorcycle and thrown over the wall, falling 32 feet onto the private parking lot where he was later found.

Haugen was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. His family members have been notified.

Police say speed and alcohol did not play a factor in the crash.
