Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Dare, Hyde and Tyrell Counties has expired

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for mainland Dare County, Tyrrell County and eastern mainland Hyde County in North Carolina until 10:30 am.

A 9:25 am doppler radar indicated severe thunderstorms capable of producing destructive winds in excess of 70 mph. These storms were located 12 miles east of Swan Quarter Ferry Terminal and moving north at 55 mph.

Locations impacted include Columbia Englehard, Gum Neck, Stumpy Point, Fairfield and Manns Harbor.

This storm has a history of producing wind damage. Seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.

Heavy rains flood roads quickly so do not drive into areas where water covers the road.
