Chesapeake, Va. – Chesapeake Police have received several reports regarding a phone scam.

They say people have been called by a suspect claiming to be from the U.S. Treasurer’s Office and inform the individual that they have filed their taxes incorrectly. The suspect says that if money isn’t sent immediately, they have a warrant for their arrest.

All of the callers have realized it was a scam and didn’t transfer any money to the suspect(s).

If anyone receives a call similar to this, they are encouraged to verify the information before transferring money.  If you have been a victim of this scam, please call the Chesapeake Police Department at 757-382-6161.
