(Mira Mesa, CA) — A former NewsChannel 3 reporter and her photographer were injured Monday when a tree fell on them. Reporter Marie Coronel and photographer Mike Gold were hurt Monday morning in Mira Mesa, CA, a suburb of San Diego, when reporting on damage done by severe storms.
The station where the two work, KGTV, reports Gold had surgery Monday morning for a compound leg fracture and is expected to recover. Coronel's husband told family and friends her injuries are far more serious and faces "a long recovery".
Many NewsChannel 3 viewers will recognize Marie Coronel from her time in Hampton Roads. She was a news reporter at WTKR for a number of years, leaving in 2012 to report in her hometown of San Diego. Our thoughts and prayers are with Marie, Mike and their families.
