Franklin, Va. - A woman died in a house fire in Franklin on Wednesday night, according to Franklin Fire and Rescue.
Crews from Franklin Fire and Rescue, Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department and Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 1513 Mariner Street around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night and found heavy smoke and visible fire coming from the home.
An occupant was reported to be inside the home and crews immediately began to search for the person.
A woman was found inside the bathroom and was removed and transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The fire was extinguished and an arson investigator was called to the scene to determine a cause.
The cause of the fire was determined to be from smoking cigarettes in bed.
