Family dog dies in early morning fire in Norfolk

Norfolk, Va. - Firefighters are investigating an early morning house fire that left a family dog dead.  Rescue units arrived in the 2000 block of Kenlake Place and found smoke and flames showing from a single family home.

No injuries or deaths were reported but the family dog died during the fire.

Initially two engines, a ladder and a rescue company, responded along with a medic and a battalion chief responded to the blaze

A second alarm was called, bringing two additional engines, a ladder, a medic and battalion chief to the scene.  In total 42 Norfolk Fire-Rescue personnel including 3 members of the Fire Marshal’s office worked on the fire.

The residents will be displaced and are working on temporary living accommodations.

There was significant damages to the home estimated at $350,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
