Family escapes house fire in Suffolk

Suffolk, Va. – A family has been displaced from their home on Cherry Blossom Drive after escaping a large garage fire.

On Monday around 2:00 p.m., Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews responded to a call about a house fire at the home, located in the Cedar Lake Shores neighborhood.

When crews arrived, heavy flames were coming from the garage of the home.  Both of the residents were able to escape the home before crews arrived to the scene.

The home has heavy damages and the displaced family is being helped by the American Red Cross.

A firefighter was injured and taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The fire was declared under control around 3:00 p.m.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire.
