K-9’s from Dare County Sheriff’s Office help find dirt bikers who led deputies on chase

Manns Harbor, N.C. – Two dirt bikers were arrested on October 29th in Manns Harbor after leading deputies on a chase. One of the men was tracked down by K-9 units from the sheriff’s department.

Deputies had responded to Manns Harbor at approximately 9:14 pm area for reports of dirt bikes tearing up the local park and residents yards.

When deputies arrived in the area they located two men who led them on a brief chase before getting off their bikes and continuing to run away.

One of the men was apprehended after a brief foot chase while the other was able to elude the deputies for a short period of time.

Sgt. Barerra and his K-9 Diablo and Deputy Bennett and his K-9 Jilly responded to the scene and started a track to locate the second man.  Diablo was able to find the man, who was hiding in a yard not far from the chase location.

19-year-old Mario David Reyes Mares of Manns Harbor was charged with Misdemeanor Resist a Public Officer, Misdemeanor Carless and Reckless to Endanger and Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. He is being held in lieu of $40,000 secured bond.

23-year-old Dominique Antonio Nelson of Manteo was charged with Misdemeanor Resist a Public Officer, Misdemeanor Careless and Reckless to Endanger and Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle. He was released on a $15,000 secured bond.
