Police looking for man accused of hitting 7-Eleven clerk with beer bottle, robbing store

Newport News, Va. - Police need your help finding a man who robbed a 7-Eleven early Tuesday morning.

Police received a call about a robbery at the 7-Eleven on Jefferson Avenue around 2:00 a.m.

According to the night shift clerk, the man came into the store wearing a hooded sweatshirt , hiding part of his face.

The suspect spent several minutes in the bathroom and then told the clerk the bathroom was flooding.

When the clerk went to the back of the store, the man then hit him over the head with a beer bottle, told him he was robbing the store and demanded money.

After the suspect stole packs of cigarettes and the entire cash register, he ran away from the scene.

The clerk was treated at the hospital for a wound on his head.

Customers say they were shocked to hear about the robbery.

"That's insane because he really could have hurt the guy a beer bottle is hard," said Chanelle Tolbert. "It could of cracked his head or cut him, that's crazy people are really doing crazy things out here."

Now Tolbert and Police hope that someone will recognize the man and take action to get him off the street.

"If he has done it one time he is probably going to do that again," said Tolbert.

The suspect is described as a black male with a bald head, 5'9" to 6' tall, late 30's to early 40's and weighing around 230 pounds.  He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket with red pants.
