Portsmouth, Va. – Portsmouth Police are stepping up patrols near Churchland Elementary School after an 11-year-old student reported a suspicious encounter with someone on Wednesday morning.

The student was walking in the area of High Street and Clover Hill Drive when a blue car, possibly a Honda, approached them. The driver, described as a light-skinned, heavy-set black male, tried to coax the child into his vehicle by saying he had “something special” for them.

The child refused, ran home, and told an adult about the encounter.

Anyone who may know anything about this incident is asked to call Portsmouth Police at 757-393-5300.

Detectives continue to gather information and are asking parents to talk to their children about strangers and the dangers they pose.
