Virginia Beach, Va. – This is a true testament to the value of a pet microchip.

Cheddar the cat disappeared from his Virginia Beach home about two and a half years ago.

Turns out Cheddar was found by someone who assumed he was homeless and kept him – never having him checked for a chip.

The kitty was brought into the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center because the new owners were unable to keep him, and when staffers scanned him they found the chip!

Cheddar’s owner, Amy Lutz-Sexton, came running to pick him up and had a happy reunion! Sexton says she is so thankful to have him back home and encourages all pet owners to microchip their pets and keep the info up-to-date.

Jessica Wilde with Animal Care says Cheddar had a great first night back home with his family.

The Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center asks you to report any pet you find lost/stray to the city shelter and to remember to microchip your pets.
