(CNN) — It’s a soothing sight in a scary situation: A police officer holding a baby dressed in pink on the side of the road in the aftermath of a traffic accident.

A picture of officer Ric Lindley holding the baby after a multi-vehicle crash this morning in Leeds, Alabama, garnered several thousands likes and shares on the Jefferson County Sheriff Facebook page in just an hour. Another sheriff’s office in Florida commented, “You’re in good hands baby girl.”

Lindley reportedly held the baby — which had been a passenger in one of the cars — while medics tended to other passengers.

That act of kindness is characteristic of Lindley, Sgt. Jack Self, Jefferson County said. It’s simply “the kind of man he is.”

“He’s just a humble servant of the people.”

The crash involved two vehicles, an ambulance and a tractor trailer. No serious injuries were reported.
